The Rotary Club of Strathendrick
on the
edge of Scotlands first national park Loch Lomond and the Trossachs
OUR PRESIDENT Colin Dick is the president of Strathendrick Rotary club
I have the honour of being the President of our club for the 2009-10 Rotary year and, together with our office-bearers and Council, aim to maintain the ethos of our club within the local community, as well as contributing to the wider Rotary world through our support of a range of good causes at home and abroad. Our club is now over 30 years old and has established strong links with other local organisations over those years, even though the individuals may have changed. For example, we are pleased to work closely with local schools on projects involving several aspects of youth development and have the benefit of the powerful support of Balfron Golf Society which allows us to run a very successful charity golfing event each year. Through our own Rotary charity, Rotary Foundation, we support international causes. An important one of these for me is Polio Plus, a huge global effort funded largely by Rotary to rid the world of Rotary. This has been worked on for many years now and is nearing final success. As well as being a fund-raising organisation, we believe in the fellowship which we provide to each other as Rotarians, both men and women. As well as our regular Monday meetings, we run a number of social events to be enjoyed by club, members, partners and friends. I originate from Aberdeen, and following graduation from University there, my career in sales has meant I have lived in a number of places in the UK as well as working across Europe and Asia. I am now an Account Director for a large Human Resources consultancy, based in Glasgow. My partner, Agnes, and I share time between our homes in Balfron and Bishopbriggs. I have two sons and two grandsons. I have been a member of Rotary for some 22 years, and look forward to growing the interest of our current members and welcoming new members to our club during the remainder of my presidential year.

PRESIDENT ELECT Ian Dickie
Ian and his wife Pat have lived in the Strathendrick area since 1977. Their children, a son and a daughter left home some years ago and they have three grandchildren who live in Denmark. Ian first joined the Rotary Club of Strathendrick in the early '80's but, after a few years the requirements of his employment became more and more demanding, he resigned because he couldn't devote the time and effort to Rotary he would have liked. Ian served over 30 years in the Police and was responsible for arranging all Major Events and V.I.P. visits in Strathclyde, including the Papal Visit, the Queen's Jubilee Celebrations, and the NATO Conference at Turnberry, the Gulf War Memorial Service and many more. He was also seconded to the Lockerbie Disaster for several months in charge of Operations. In 1992, he was honored for services to the Police with the award of the Queen's Police Medal. He had a second career with Diageo as Health, Safety and Environmental Manager and stayed with them from some 8 years. After retirement, Ian rejoined the Club because he believed in Rotary as an organization that made a difference in our communities and at national and international level. An awful lot of what Rotary does do is never really made public and Ian thinks this is something to be tackled.
