The Rotary Club of Strathendrick
on the
edge of Scotlands first national park Loch Lomond and the Trossachs
Club Service
Convenor :- Ian Dickie.
The Club Service remit within our Club requires the holder of that office to oversee a number of different functions and maintain a close relationship with the various chairs of those functions. This tactic affords those responsible for these functions access to a single door situation whereby the Club benefits from the shared knowledge that results across the functions.
These functions include such matters as:
Membership :- Bob Taylor
Member of Strathendrick Rotary for 2 years, but has been a Rotarian for over 15 years, previously at Tipton (West Midlands) where he was a past President. Bob says "I enjoy Rotary, the fellowship of like-minded people and the various activities with which members get involved. I therefore like to encourage others to become involved and to get the personal, social and professional satisfaction that can be gained through joining this international organisation."
Membership activities
A club with members committed to supporting and enhancing local communities as well as others further afield.
We welcome anyone who is community spirited, has a passion for sharing and helping or would enjoy what Rotary has to offer. New members would meet with members and become involved in the various activities undertaken that benefit all aspects of our society at local, national and international levels. We recruit members who live or work within the Strathendrick area (i.e. covered by Balfron, Blanefield, Buchlyvie, Croftamie, Drymen, Fintry, Killearn, Strathblane, Gartmore, Balmaha, and Rowardennan.)
Retention of our current members is also an important issue and views are being sought within the Club as to how best this can be achieved.
We meet weekly, except for public holidays, on Mondays, at the Black Bull Hotel, Kill earn (6.30 pm for 7.00 pm). Anyone who wants to find out more about Rotary and us, come along and share a meal with us and see for yourself what Rotary is all about, and the characters that make it so worthwhile!
Social Gatherings :- Pamela Maxwell & Robert Cranstoun
Serve to enhance friendship and fellowship within the Club and beyond and can create circumstances whereby the message of Rotary is further spread.
Sport :- Bob Glass
Bob and his wife Fiona have lived in Killearn over 20 years, he is an all round sports enthusiast, as is Fiona, golf, shooting, fishing, and curling where he has recently used a pole to deliver the stone.
Our curling team--skipped by Neil Cameron with Bob Glass, George Harris and John O'Neill took part in the Ramshead Curling Competition at Perth Ice Rink on Sunday 15th November 2009, having lost the first match on the last stone against Stirling RC they then peeled the second game against Allander RC.
Unfortunately these results meant no further participation in the competition for our team this year but the day was much enjoyed by the players.
Our next curling adventure was the Rotary Jewel Curling competition at Perth on the 9th March 2010 and performances having been evaluated for team selection, Neil Cameron, Steve Holden, Bob Glass and George Harris were chosen and performed modestly.
The ever popular Canadian touring team arrives in November and already we have a number of volunteer hosts.
Independent Examiners, Protection and Health and Safety Officers:- John Ford, Jamie Millar and George Harris.
Provide appropriate guidance to ensure that the Club operates within the law and does not place the safety of members or the public at risk.
Attendance, Archives and Regalia: Robin Taylor and Nigel Kelly.
Functions performed by dedicated members to keep a record of members' activities and to provide a central point whereby regalia requirements can be readily sourced.
