The Youth of today is our future tomorrow! At Strathendrick Rotary we work closely with the local high school - Balfron. We are keen to continue our support to them in a variety of ways with the main aim of enhancing the childrens' experiences. We support & organise a range of activities such as Mock Interviews.
Each year some of the Rotarians provide mock interviews to students at the school to give the students the opportunity to practice their skills prior to being in the situation of real employers.
Bio Diesel Project
Over the past two years we have supported the development of a bio-diesel project at Balfron High School, the idea being to convert the school minibus so that it could run on fuel made from waste cooking oil obtained from local hotels and restaurants.Primary School Quiz
Rotarians annually run a quiz for teams from all the local primary schools in the Strathendrick area. Children in P6 & P7 compete for a place in the district final. This year the quiz was on 17 March 2010 and was organised by Allan Watson, George Harris and their technical team. The winners were Strathblane Primary who will compete in the district final.President Colin Dick with winning team.
Golf - Sense
We sponsor a team of 3 students in the Sense Scotland Golf Day. The past three years Balfron have won this event which is becoming so successful that Sense Scotland is looking to expand it into other schools.Euro Scholarship
Each year we sponsor a Brussels trip for 2 to 3 days for a meeting at the European Parliament with every other member of the EU. Our Euroscola for 2010 is Lisa Rubython a pupil at Balfron High School. We always welcome fresh ideas to benefit the local children in addition to above, as we are keen to grow on our interaction with them, and enable our youth to enjoy challenges, develop strong bonds of Friendship, and help them to express and realise their hopes, dreams and expectations.
